(FBlock)On my opinion this fight that took place in NY, Madison Squere Garden on March 8, 1971, had a BIG sigbificance, because it was not only a regular fight, ita was a fight between a champion (Frazier) vs a challenger (Ali), and this 2 persons were symbols. Ali was the symbol of the anti-establishment movment and Frazier was a symbol of the pro-war. I'm not a fan of any of them, but I think that Ali was better as a person and his symbol was a better cause. I dont now that much about box, but of what I have reserch Joe Luis was the greter boxer. And talking about Box or MMA Ilike boxing because it's more stylistic compared to MMA, and it also have more time than the MMA.

  2. On March 8, 1971, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier meet for the "Fight of the Century". Everyone was so riled up for this match, because there was so much current drama going on between them that everyone knew it was definitely going down. Come on it wasn't also any other match either it was between Ali and Frazier who were both undefeated and had won Olympic gold medals and multiple Golden Gloves championships.I am a fan of Muhammid Ali because he brought Boxing out of it's seedy image and made everybody look at boxing as the true art that it is . His skill , speed and strength have yet to be surpassed by any other Heavyweight that along with his enigmatic personality and charm. I honestly think Muhammid Ali is the greatest boxer of all time. And I prefer boxing because it uses more skill and mind strategies also its more realistic.

  3. The Fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier is one of the greatest Boxing matches ever. The Fight is titled “The Fight of the Century”. The Fight was held at Madison Square Garden (Home of The Knicks). Most people say the fight was a symbol of how the world was. Leading up to the fight Ali had denounced the war in 1967 and decided that he rather go to jail than fight in a war. Frazier, however, was pro-war. After refusing to go to war Ali was stripped of his title and banned from fighting. Both Ali and Frazier came into the fight undefeated but, Ali had been out of fighting for about 4 years. This was an intense rivalry. I am a fan of Muhammad Ali because he thought of himself as the best ever. I believe the same about myself. He wasn’t arrogant. He was confident and believed in himself. In my opinion Ali is the greatest boxer of all-time. He beat some the greatest boxers in the world. I prefer boxing because I feel like it is real and separates the boys from the men.

  4. In Madison Square Gardens on March 8, 1971, was what people called the “Fight of the Century”. The fight was between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. The fight itself became something of a symbol of the country. Before the fight, Ali refused induction into the U.S. Army in 1967. It led to him being stripped of his title and barred from fighting. Ali was a symbol of the anti-establishment movement, while on the other hand Frazier became a symbol of the conservative, pro-war movement. During the night of the fight, everyone was riled up. There were riots breaking out. That night, Frazier won, but in 1974 and 1975, Frazier and Ali had two rematches, which Ali won.
I personally am not a fan of boxing, but if I had to choose who I liked better between Frazier and Ali, I would have to choose Ali. Frazier was a fighter, but Ali was a boxer. I believe Ali is the greatest boxer of all time; he believed it too. Between MMA and Boxing, I prefer Boxing.

  5. Muhammad Ali said he could not fight in the war because of his religious beliefs. His rep gave him a title shot against Joe Frazier, the fight was known as the fight of the century. That was his hardest fight of his career. The fight was held in Madison Square Gardens on March 8, 1971. Ali became a political symbol of the black society, and maybe most influential beside Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. He became the second youngest champion in history. What he did made him even more popular in his society, and then they overturned his conviction. Now he suffers from Parkinson"tms disease, and still does a lot of charity work. Ali used his speed and movement to thoroughly outbox the champion. That was when he suffered his first pro lose. Ali wanted everyone to know that he was the greatest; I think he did just that.

  6. Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier participated in the "Fight of the Century" at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 8, 1971. They were both undefeated and had Olympic gold metals. This boxing match was Muhammad Ali’s chance to win back the heavyweight championship which had been stripped by the WBA. This match had so much hype and most of the crowd was going for Muhammad, unfortunately he lost. It was his first loss in his pro career. After this match Muhammad and Frazier fought again twice, Ali winning those two matches. I'm not a fan of neither of them but the little I've heard of Muhammad Ali makes me believe he's the greatest boxer. Between boxing and MMA i'd choose MMA.

  7. The boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Frazier was a significant battle because they were both undefeated champions. This match is famous because they were Olympic medalist, and golden glove champions but their personalities were vastly different. I would say I’m a fan of Muhammad Ali because I’ve heard about his accomplishments and his dedication to boxing but I’ve never really heard about Frazier. I honestly feel that Muhammad Ali was one of the greatest boxers of all time because he’s gone through a lot in his life and even though he didn’t win the fight with Frazier he won the two rematches they had. I prefer boxing because I’ve seen it a lot and I find it interesting but I’ve never watched MMA so I prefer to watch boxing because I understand it more.

  8. The fight between Ali and Frazier was very important because it was a match between two amazing boxers that were never defeated. Joe Frazier, the Olympic gold medalist and former heavyweight champion, will likely forever be defined by his relationship with Ali. The two were the greatest heavyweights of their era, and two of the greatest of all time. They fought 3 times and two of them were consider the "Fight of the Century". I am a fan of Muhammad Ali only because I know more about him then Joe Frazier. Ali was a champ and a great fighter. He was a very good role model too. He became a symbol for all of black society and very influential. Any one can be a great boxing champ, but the ones who practice and practice over and over again and not give up are the ones who will be known for their time and dedication to a certain sport just like Ali and Frazier.

  9. The Fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier is one of the greatest Boxing matches ever. The bout is often ranked as one of the greatest fights of 20th century boxing, and is the climax to the bitter rivalry between Ali and Frazier. Both Ali and Frazier were undefeated and the greatest known boxer all around so everyone was excited about their match to see which one is going to lose. The fight itself became something of a symbol of the country. Ali became a symbol of the anti-establishment movement, while Frazier became a symbol of the conservative, pro-war movement. I am not a fan of them because I am not a boxer fan. I feel that Ali could have been the greatest because everyone talked about him more often than Frazier. I prefer boxing because I believe it is more safe compare to MMA.

  10. Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier. Both legends but one ultimate champion. This boxing match between them was significant because they were both undefeated and it was Ali's first chance to regain back the heavyweight championship. It was famous for the exact same reason. Both Ali and Frazier are amazing boxers but I have to side with Ali. Muhammad Ali is the most recognized man on earth. He is very much respected and his triumph lies in his legacy as a champion, leader, and artist. I think the greatest boxer would have be Ali. He ended his successful career with 56 wins and only 5 defeats; that is pretty impressive for any boxer out there. I prefer MMA because boxing is a sport of punching and MMA is a sport of fighting. While boxing is fake punching , MMA is real fighting whch I actually love to watch.

  11. "The Fight of The Century" was between Muhammad Ali aka Cassius Clay and Joe Frazier, they both were excellent fighters in their lifetime but no one can pass the power of Muhammad Ali. He was nicknamed "The greatest" for a reason, he destroyed people in his past, although he was a mega talker and insulter, he backed up what he had to say but beating people. In Madison Sqaure Garden everyone knew this fight was going to crazy and exciting. Muhammad Ali won. In my opinion, the greatest boxer of all time is simply Muhammad Ali without a doubt in my mind that guy for a good century seemed impossible to beat.. He can talk all the garbage he wants and beat you fair and Sqaure. To me personally, I like boxing over MMA I feel MMA is just wrestling with hitting. I like boxing more because you're literally gonna win by knockouts and strength. Not just whatever grabs and strong submissions to me, that'll put anyone to sleep.

  12. It's March 8, 1971 and the "Fight of the Century" is taking place in Madison Square Garden. The fight was between probably the two best boxers of all time, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. Both of these fighters entered the match without ever losing, but one them was going to leave the night with their first loss and the other with probably the most significant win of their career. At the end of the night it was the heavily favored Muhammad Ali who lost his first ever match. Joe Frazier came out on top and stayed with his heavyweight title. Personally I actually wanted Joe to win because Ali was really cocky and annoting and I liked the underdog to win, which is what happened. Don't get me wrong though, Muhammad Ali is still the greatest boxer of all time but I still like Joe Frazier.

Personally, I like MMA over boxing because it's a lot harder and is much more tactical and you can't mess up because then your dead. MMA I think takes more energy and willpower than boxing, but they are both very entertaining.

  13. The boxing match was so significant because it was the greatest fight of all time. It was the first time Ali fought in 3 and half yeas, and was Ali chance to win back the heavyweight championship. The fight was even more important because each boxer was undefeated which made it even more interesting. People wanted to see how these great but completely opposite personalities. Im not really a boxer fan but if I had to chose, I will go with Muhammad Ali. I like his tatics, quotes, fighting methods, and strength. Muhammad Ali is the greatest of all time, he never gave up even if he was hurt badly. If he lost one battle he would always win the second one. I prefer boxing over MMA because its more real to me. They have to learn all the moves and prepare themselves physically and mentally.

  14. The Fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier is one of the most extravagant Boxing matches ever seen in American history. The Fight between them was actually called “The Fight of the Century”. Madison Square Garden Home of The New York Knicks was where the fight was held at. This match is famous because they were both Olympic medalist and golden glove champions but at the end of the day they were completely different people. I would say I’m a fan of Muhammad Ali because I’ve heard and read about his accomplishments and his dedication to his boxing career but I’ve never really understood Frazier and his life accomplishments or his dedications for me to even try and consider him as the best boxer and plus the fight proved who was the best. This was the biggest rivalry in America between Ali and Frazier. I am a fan of Muhammad Ali because he thought of himself as the best trained and ready for whatever challenges that was coming towards his way. I feel that’s how I am at times. In my opinion Ali is the greatest boxer of all-time in American history which also beat some the biggest strongest boxers in the world. I prefer boxing because I think it shows what it takes to be the best and what it takes to get there.

  15. The significance of the boxing match was mainly on who was more of a champion not just any regular fight between them. I am mainly towards none, don't personally like any because none of them really catched my attention. i personally prefer boxing more though because its more of a challenge.

The significance of this boxing match was that it was called the “Fight of the Century” and that Ali returned to the marquee three-and-a-half years after boxing commissions revoked his license over his refusal to fight in the Vietnam War. It was important because it was Ali’s first chance to win back the heavyweight championship, which had been stripped by the WBA. I’m a fan of Muhammad Ali because he’s one of the few boxers I’m actually sort of familiar with knowing. I think Muhammad Ali was the greatest boxer of all-time because I’ve heard so much of how he was a good boxer back in the day and everybody says that he’s the best. I don’t prefer boxing or MMA because I never really liked to watch boxing ever since I was a kid.

  19. Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier meet on March 8, 1971 for the fightof the century in Madison Square Garden, in New York City. The signifance of this battle was that both boxers were undefeated and had won Olympic gold medals. This was what made the match so interesting because it was an event in which two icons went against each other, with one goal in mind which was to win te other and continue with there career without being defeated. I am more of a fan of Muhammad Ali because i think that he has a more powerful and well known character. I also think that he was the greatest boxer of all times because He was a boxer that was consistent in his career and an icon. I prefer boxing over MMA because I think you need to have more techniques, strength and endurence to be able to knock the opponnent out.

  20. Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier meet for the "Fight of the Century" at Madison Square Garden in New York City. the significance of the match was that Ali wanted to avenge his loss to Frazier in their first fight, and a world title try at Heavyweight champion George Foreman, who had dethroned Frazier. The fight itself became something of a symbol of the country. Ali refused induction into the U.S. Army which lead to him being stripped of his title and barred from fighting.Ali then became a symbol of anti-establishment movement and Frazier one of conservative, pro-war movement. I personally do not watch boxing but i know who both are and i think that i like Ali more just because the fact that he kept on fighting after everything.I think MMA is better because in Martial Arts they teach you discipline and how or what to do if a certain situation occurs, etc.

  21. The significance of this boxing match was that two undefeated boxers, who each had a legitimate claim to being the heavyweight boxing champions of the world, would collide on their first fight. Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali have gone down in history as the two best heavyweight boxers of all time. There will likely never be a boxing match as significant as that first confrontation between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. A fight between two undefeated heavyweight champions. I’m not a follower of boxing, but this is a really tough question. Both were two of the bravest, toughest fighters who ever lived, but overall Muhammad Ali is the name that always comes to my mind. He will always get my vote and Ali was the first man to win the heavyweight title for his achievement records of 56 wins and 5 losses which made him so famous. I do prefer MMA because it is a competitive sport like any other combat sport out there. It is a contest of skill, technique, strength, and power with organizations that have rules which are strictly regulated for the safety of the fighters. There are so many different fighting styles involved in every competition, each one spectacular in its own way. Mixed martial arts is like no other sport out there, with the most talented and skilled fighters.

  22. On March 8, 1971, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier meet for the "Fight of the Century" at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Both Ali and Frazier were undefeated and had won Olympic gold medals and many Golden Gloves championships. Ali remained undefeated heavyweight champion until 1967 when he was stripped of his title by the boxing commission for refusing to report for selective service. Many boxing fans didn’t accept Frazier as the champion, because they still saw Ali as the rightful title holder. Frazier wanted badly to fight Ali so he could erase this doubt and prove himself the true champion. The fight lived up to the excitement. Ali originally landed more punches, gliding about the ring as light on his feet as he was in the main of his career. Frazier’s punches, seemed to have more impact. The rivalry was so intense that, 20 years after their final fight, when Ali carried the torch and lit the ceremonial flame at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Frazier said "If I had the chance, I would have pushed him in." I prefer boxing over MMA because I feel that boxing you show more skill and speed where in MMA you just throw and slam each other around.

  23. The significance of this match was that on March 8, 1971, two of the greatest boxing players of the time were face to face to meet for the “Fight of the Century” at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Both Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier were undefeated boxers who had previously won multiple Olympic gold medals and championships, which made this match to be significant and well known. I would say I’m a fan of Muhammad Ali because I’m more familiar with him than Joe Frazier. He is widely known, and I think Ali is the greatest boxer of all time, because he won numerous fights. I prefer watching boxing because you never know who's going to win. I find it more interesting, thrilling to watch, and I’m more familiar with it.

  24. The boxing match Joe Frazier vs. Muhammad Ali was a clash between two undefeated champions. Everyone wanted to know who would win, and Ali had been out of the ring for a while so this was a perfect way to return. Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali were both very skilled, but their personalities were opposites. This added another level of grouping for the fans. Another reason this match was so famous was that there was no “This guy will definitely win” I didn’t know about the match until this week so I can’t say I’m a fan of either of them. I think Ali is the better boxer because even if Frazier got him the first time, when it mattered the most, Ali still won the 2 times after that. I think I prefer MMA over Boxing because MMA is cooler looking but I’ve never seen an entire boxing match or MMA fight so I don’t know for sure.

  25. "The Fight of the Century" is what people call the fight between Ali and Frazier at the Madison Square Garden. This fight was very significant it was a battle between two undefeated champions with strong negative feels for each other. One of the reasons was because of their feelings toward the war the other was from Ali's name calling. this match was so famous because they were both undefeated and Gold Medalist and this was Ali's first year back in boxing. I am a fan of Ali because of his outspoken personality, his determination, his confidence, and the way he spoke about himself being the best. Bowing or MMA? Both are kind of the same to me because they both involve skill and strategy but i prefer Boxing because it is more thrilling.

If I would have to chose between Ali and Frazier I would chose Muhammad Ali. I am a fan of Ali because he was more talented than Frazier in boxing. I really don't know enough about boxing to say who I think was the greatest boxer of all time. I prefer boxing over MMA because it is less violent and they don't beat up on each other as much as the fighter in MMA do.

  27. The "Fight of the Century" between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier on March 8, 1971 at Madison Square Garden, was one of the greatest fights of all time. It was most significant because both of the boxers were undefeated at the time. However, there was contention between them because after Ali changed his name from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali, when he became a Muslim. Joe Frazier was one of the only people who didn't call him by his new name. "Much to his opponent’s dismay, Ali successfully painted the less popular and more reserved Frazier as an "Uncle Tom" and an instrument of the establishment." I am a fan of Muhammad Ali because he was always humble when he fought and he was a good-looking man at the time. I believe Muhammad Ali is the best boxer of all-time after I watched the fight between him and George Foreman and Muhammad Ali won by performing the "rope-a-dope" on Foreman and winning the match. I prefer boxing over MMA because MMA fighters quit really quick in a match whereas boxers keep going, they’re more skillful.

  28. The Ali vs. Frazier had to be the biggest matchup in sports history. The fight was taking place in probably the best venue for sports, Madison Square Garden. And both Ali and Frazier were undefeated, which made the fight that much intense. This would be Ali’s first chance to get back his title after it was stripped by the WBA for not going to Vietnam. If I was alive to see this fight happen I would’ve been going for Ali. I am also an Ali fan, just the way his personality is. He would be the ideal type for an athlete. He is very cocky, showboats, usually a fan favorite, and the greatest boxer of all time. When comparing boxing and MMA, I would choose boxing. I choose boxing because of its originality. And without boxing starting, who’s to say that MMA would’ve even been started. But the Frazier-Ali rivalry has to be the biggest rivalry in sports. And without this first matchup, we would be missing a big part in history.

  30. This match was very important because Ali's license had been revoked and this would be the FIRST time in three years that he would fight. This was Ali's chance to regain his fans, and remind them of what good of a fighter he is. Most of the crowd was cheering for Ali. My dad is a very big fan of Muhammad Ali, and he has several paintings and memorabilia that belong to him in his house. So, I guess I can say I am an Ali fan. This match is very famous because as I said before it was Ali's first fight in a while. The fact that it was Ali's first loss also makes it an even bigger deal, even though Ali continued to defeat Frazier two years later. I don't really watch boxing or mixed martial arts so I do not know who is good and who isn't. I do think that voxing seems to be more famous since people watch the UFC fights on cavle every time they are on. Boxing is still very popular and everybody knows abd will never ever forget about th Ali vs. Frazier fight!

  31. Muhammad Ali was a professional boxer, philanthropist and social activist. He was born on January 17th 1942. One of the reasons why the "Fight of the Century" was so significant is that this was the first fight that Ali fought after three and a half years. It was Ali's first chance to take back the heavyweight championship. It was so famous because Ali and Frazier were both successful and undefeated boxers. How much more interesting could that be to boxing fanatic?
I am not a fan of either of the boxers. I was never a fan of boxing period. I do know others that keep up with boxing matches but I myself do not. Boxing never caught my attention or pulled on my interest.
From what I hear Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali are the top heavyweight boxers. I have not a preference for boxing nor MMA. It just isn't fitting for me.

  32. After his revoked license was fixated, he marked his return on March 8, 1971. This was the day Muhammad Ali met up with the undefeated Joe Frazier at Madison Square Garden at New York City for the "Fight of The Century". This match was so essential for Ali because it was his first chance to win back the Heavy Weight Championship, that was taken from him by the WBA. Ultimately,he lost the first battle of his career; Ali wasn't finished yet, he was determined to regain his title and he did when he fought against Frazier twice and won. "Float like a butterfly sting like a bee", famous for his unorthoxed fighting skills and his mentality to trash talk his opponents, Ali was the greatest heavy weight of all time. He came, fought and defeated all of the best in his era. He also believed in racial equality which in my defense made him a bigger champion. Although I have no interest in fighting, boxing is clearly dead; MMA is becoming way more appealing than boxing as the years progress. Its an intricate mix of all martial arts hence, it is far more advanced than Boxing in my opinion.

  35. After a couple years of Ali trying to recoup his fame; Ali finds it a great opportunity to win this battle at Madison square garden and most importantly to regain his stripped WBA (World Boxing Association) title. Both Ali and Frazier were great, undefeated boxing champions and won Olympic gold medals. The night of the fight there were many famous/important people watching the fight such as the wonderful Frank Sinatra. This match was so important because it had the most famous and talented boxers up against each other.Ali ended up lossing the fight but later on battles Frazier in two other fights that he won. I am actually a fan of Ali, I remember in first grade my class performed to one of the songs featured in his movie “Mohammad Ali” called World’s Greatest. – Kafe Gucciardo (:

  36. On March 8, 1971, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier meet for the "Fight of the Century". The Fight was held at Madison Square. The fight itself became something of a symbol of the country. Ali became a symbol of the anti-establishment movement while Frazier became a symbol of the conservative, pro-war movement. Many boxing fans argued that Ali's speed and ability would blind Frazier, while others thought Frazier's superior punching power combined with Ali's long absence from the ring would give the advantage to Frazier. On the night of the fight, there were riots in many United States cities, including Chicago, where a whole theater was torn apart by angry attendees who had just learned they would not be able to watch the fight on closed-circuit television. The fight itself exceeded even its promotional hype and went the full 15-round championship distance. This was the most crushing defeat for Ali. Ali remained dominant among his opponents, but not win another world title fight until three and a half years later, on October 30, 1974, in the historic Rumble in the Jungle fight. Both men spent time recuperating in a hospital following the grueling fight. Rumors circulated that Frazier had died. Upon hearing the rumors, Ali vowed to retire from boxing if they turned out to be true. Both boxers are in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

He is quoted saying “I didn't fight in the war because I was a father, but had I been drafted, I would have fought because my country has been so good to me.” I am a fan of Muhammad Ali, because of his famous “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” motto. Also, because he stood up for what he believed in and also because he defeated Frazier in the other two fights they fought. I feel that there is no greatest boxer of all time; this is because the most famous of boxers are great in their own right. 39. Marched 8, 1971 was probably one of the most influential boxing matches in history. Everyone found themselves rooting for Muhammad Ali because he was fighting for the title after having his boxing license revoked for three and a half years, due to his refusal to fight in the Vuetnam War. Still, Ali was handed his first loss (which is often over-looked in the story of Ali-Frazier). I am a Muhammad Ali fan simply because he signifies what it means to be confident. He told the world that he was the greatest and he made it so. He floated like a butterfly, stung like a bee, and won the hearts of all boxing fans, even to this day. It is for this reason that I believe that he is the greatest boxer of all time. He was the greatest both inside and outside of the ring. He feared nobody and it showed. In this day and age, when boxing has taken a back seat to other big-time events, i admit its pretty hard to say that MMA isn't better than boxing in my eyes. MMA provides the Ali-stature athletes into the octagon while boxing is stuck in the past with few big names. Many find MMA to be more exciting in general as well.
