  1. i think the John Lennon story is such a tragic and sad event. My opinion(s) are John Lennon was just an innocent man who was killed by someone who was mentally challenge or did'nt know what he was doing by going to the flow of things and crazy thoughts that was coming into his mind. I belived that Mark David Chapman was someone who needed help in life because there are no particular reasons for someone to kill others if they had no relations to their daily life. Mark David Chapman must of had his own personal issues in life by taking his anger out on others and killing John Lennon was his decision for ending some kind of pain he must of had.

  2. John Lennon was very talented and he just wanted to make peace as he was known as a peace activist. He expressed everything through his music. The Beatles impacted the nation with their music. They had multiple best-selling albums and became global pop icons. My opinion is that Chapman was mentally ill and became obsessed with John Lennon. If he was really a fan, he wouldn't go and kill the musician he likes because no sane person would do something like that. He shouldn't have been sentenced to prison, he should have been sent to a mental facility for help. He was sentenced in 1981 and continues to serve now in New York's Attica State Prison.

  3. John Lennon's assassin, Mark David Chapman, was sentenced to prison 20 years ago today, he has been denied parole for the murder that disregards the norms of our society and sanctity of human life basically he is a menace to human kind. His inappropriateness is incompatible with the welfare of our community. His crime ended the life of this singer who encouraged understanding and togetherness and with Lennon's death he ended an era in music. Definitely Mark David Chapman made his mark in music history and on the history of the world, when he ended the life of John Lennon, the singer, and guitarist for the Beatles.

  4. John lennon was a very well known artist belonging to a very known music group called the beatles. The group became very popular into hugely influential global pop icons.shortly, after the beatles broke up in 1970 lennon pursued his solo career as a signer and songwriter.A few years later after that john was murdered by Mark david chapman, mark was waiting by his new york city apartment for lennon to come home when he shot him four times that lead him to death. Mark stayed at the scene until local police arrived and was found guilty and sentenced 20 years in federal prison.

  5. Mark David Chapman is an inmate who murdered former Beatles member John Lennon the day of December 8, 1980. He committed the crime as Lennon and Yoko Ono (his wife) were outside of The Dakota apartment building in New York City. Mark aimed five shots at Lennon, hitting him four times in his back. Then later remained at the scene reading his favorite book until the police arrested him. First he pled not guilty by form of insanity than later on and pled guilty to the crime. He was sentenced to a prison term of twenty years to life, and is currently imprisoned at the Attica Correctional Facility in Attica, New York, having been denied parole six times. Like all other shootings in an area, It leaves the community shocked and scared, People began being more careful. Following the murder, the singles "(Just Like) Starting Over", "Imagine" and "Woman" all topped the chart within an 8-week period from, the fastest hat-trick of non-reissue number ones in UK chart history John Lennon was only one out of the four members of the Beatles. He refined the rules of acceptable behavior for rock stars. He was a legacy.

  6. In my opinion, John Lennon is one of the greatest musicians of all times. His music, and The Beatles’ music was transcending, and changed music history forever. John Lennon had a profound effect on American society and his death was a tragic day in history. His music touched the world, as some say. Lennon left a legacy of music behind. When he died, many fans all over the nation were sadden by the news. Mark Chapman is the man who shot at John Lennon five times, and killed him while he was walking into his apartment building with his wife. Chapman was sentenced 20 years to life in prison. The Beatles influenced the American nation in many ways. Their music was revolutionary, and different from everything else out there. It was psychedelic, and joyous. The Beatles are known to have set the stage for all of the American rock bands, by progressing the style of rock and roll. “Imagine” ranks as one of the fifth greatest songs of all time today.

  7. John Lennon’s murder caused a huge impact on the nation and especially his family. Leaving behind his wife Yoko Ono and his son Sean because of the insanity of a guy named Mark David Chapman. John never caused problems and was such a pacifist writing songs about the world he lived in. Making people believe that there should be peace all over the world, no fights. The duration of Lennon’s sentence was about 2 years or less. The death of John came very unexpected because the Beatles were a huge hit all around the world. Beatles were one of the most successful bands in the history of popular music. Selling multiple best-selling albums and hit films. Beatles save to say were global icons.

  9. John Lennon will always be remembered no matter what. Not only was he a famous musician and song writer, he was also a peace activist. He changed the world by telling us an important message "All you need is love". I'm pretty sure it impacted a lot of Americans when he was killed because so many people looked up to him and his music. Unfortunately there are some people who can't control their actions, like Mark David Chapman, the man who killed John Lennon. Even though he was a fan, he was mentally sick and shot him four times. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced 20 years in prison. The Beatles were a successful band and will always be remembered as one of the best in America.

  10. When the nation found out that John Lennon had been killed, they were devastated. John Lennon was a global pop icon and an inspiration to many. As a peace activist, he brought love and happiness to the people, and so did his music. John Lennon's murderer was named Mark Chapman. He had shot Lennon four times in front of Lennon’s apartment building. Later that night Lennon was pronounced dead. Silence filled the homes throughout the globe as people listened to the news report of John Lennon's death. Mark Chapman was sentenced twenty years to life in prison. He is still there today. All requests for parole have been denied. John Lennon had a huge influence on pop culture internationally. His music is still listened to around the world.

  11. Thirty years ago today, Mark David Chapman was sentenced to twenty years for the murder of John Lennon. John Lennon, himself, had a great impact on society. His music and writings touched the world. Lennon was a founding member of one of the most successful and influential bands in the history of popular music, The Beatles. The Beatles brought about change to music and television. Some say, “it was heaven to be alive” when this astounding music group was out, emphasizing how much they loved The Beatles. I didn’t really know a lot about John Lennon until I researched. I learned that he impacted so many people all over the country. It reminded me of the death of Michael Jackson. So many people were heartbroken over their deaths and still are. I don’t think Chapman was fairly sentenced at all, I think he deserves more time than he is serving whether he has psychological issues or not. John Lennon’s death was very tragic and sad. Condolences…. ☺ <3 Sydney Cook E-BLOCK!

  12. I feel that this story was sad. This story was sad because I do not think he deserved to die that early in his career. Also because his wife had to witness him being shot four times and watch as he slowly died. This event had a grand impact on the nation because that was basically the end of the Beatles. There was no way the number one band in the nation could find another singer, songwriter, and peace activist like John Lennon. Mark David Chapman was sentenced for twenty years. At first he pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but he soon decided to drop the defense and plead guilty for second degree murder. The Beatles impacted America by creating multiple best-selling albums and hit films. Also by being a big inspiration to America

  13. I believe chapman deserved life in prison because if he did what he did for no reason he will do it again if released. Lennon was a man of peace and believed in world peace and all his songs had good meanings. Now his kids and wife are left alone because if a chapman who claims to be insane but maybe that was an act not to get in prisoned for life but regardless of everything karma got back at him and he had to plead guilt and has no parole and still remains in jail.

  14. I believe that Chapman deserves life in prison. No one deserves to die and John Lennon was an icon for many people. The Beatles were known worldwide and till this day they are still recognized. Chapman was a fanatic and was insane and took it out on Lennon. John Lennon an activist of world peace and expressed it through his music. The death of John Lennon affected many people throughout the nation, especially his family and friends, but he is still remembered. - Amanda Calero A block

  15. Twenty years ago on December 8, 1980 singer, peace activist and pop icon John Lennon was shot and killed while he was on his way to his New York Apartment. His killer, Mark David Chapmin, was just sentenced August 24, 2011 for the crime and pleads guilty to second degree murder. I find it disgusting that before Chapmin shot and killed Lennon four times that he asked for his autograph hours before he committed the crime. Chapmin has to have a mental problem because he stayed at the scene, reading The Catcher in the Rye which was his favorite book. Well, at least he’s in jail where he belongs so that he won’t harm anyone else.

The successful John Lennon was a part of one of the most popular groups The Beatles. After the group broke up John Lennon was independent enough to start his own career making music and even directing a film. He had tons of fans and his murder left the nation with a great sadness and his family with a loss. There's no right way to punish someone for murder but John Lennon's killer Chapman was sentenced twenty years prison after shooting John 4 times because of insanity. The Beatles impacted America with there best-selling albums and films and still remain to be an influential icon.

  17. John Lennon was a singer, songwriter, and activist and he was murdered on December 8, 1980 by a man named Mark David Chapman. John Lennon had a big impact on the world mostly because he was a member of "The Beatles" and the world loved him and the group. Therefore, for the world to hear of his death was tragic and surreal. Chapman waited all day by Lennon's apartment in New York City and received an autograph by him. Then, Lennon and his wife took a limousine to a recording session and when they returned Chapman was waiting and shot him four times. Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life without parole. However, what was so ironic was Chapman was sitting at the crime scene reading a book called The Catcher in the Rye but later they found out he was psychotic. At first, Chapman pleads not guilty because of his insanity but later plead guilty because he said God told him to do so. The Beatles were an iconic group because they impacted the nation with revolutionized music and they also paved the way for other rock bands today.

  18. John lennon was a singer/songwriter for the Beatles as well as a peace activist. Thus making the story of his murder so ironic. The murder of John Lennon Devastated America not only because he made good music, but because he, as well as the rest of the group, became a symbol of peace in America. Though devastating for most, it inspired a few people to keep the legacy going, such as the people responsible for the film "Chapter 27".
The man responsible, Mark David Chapman, was sentenced to 20 years to life for second-degree murder. Still, the Beatles legacy lives on.
The Beatles as a whole impacted people by making music that brought the world together. Their "love everybody" attitude is one to be accepted and one to be looked up to.

  21. In my opinion John Lennon didnt deserve to die obviously. John Lennon was a pacifist who wanted peace and for everyone to be happy. But Mark Chapman had other plans. Chapman shot Lennon 4 times in the back which your not suppose to do for certain reasons. When Lennon died he left his wife (Yoko ono) and son (Sean) behind this impacted them and the world around them. Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life in jail. Although he didnt really have a motive to kill Lennon he also had no remorse because he was at the crime scene reading a book after the murder. John Lennon was the song writter for The Beatles. I dont really know about The Beatles music because I dont listen to that type of music but I know that their music is still listen to and is still great in other peoples opinions.

  22. the impact of John lenon's murder on the nation was that the Beatles were peace activist, well it doesn't say much if it made an impact on the nation... but what the atricle did say was that they were a global pop icon and had inspired a few movies on them and one of them on John Lenon and his family. Chapman was sentenced to 20 years in jail. the beatles impacted America with their songs and being peace activists.

  23. The murder of John Lennon, affected many people, not only his friends, family, and fans, but the government was affected by this tragic happening. John Lennon was known as a legend of his time, as a member of the well know British rock group The Beatles, he went solo after The Beatles breakup in 1970. Lennon was just about to make a solo career for himself when he was gunned down on December 8, 1980 by a man named Mark David Chapman. Chapman claimed to have had an unhappy childhood. He got picked on by other kids at school because he was different and only had imaginary friends. Mark David Chapman was sentenced to twenty years for the murder of John Lennon. Chapman was sitting at the crime scene reading a book called The Catcher in the Rye. I think Chapman killed Lennon because all he suffered during his childhood. Even though it wasn’t right what he did but at least he plead guilty at the end and severed his years.

  24. John Lennon who was murdered by Chapman was and still is a well-known former Beatle. Reading the article, shows me that Chapman did not have a right to shoot Lennon because he had no right to and also showed that he was proud of himself to stay at the crime scene reading the Catcher and Rye like he did nothing wrong. Since Chapman plead not guilty and Lennon was an icon to several fans, Chapman would have probably been stocked, killed, or tortured for doing something that is not right. However, in life, people do things that they have no right to do and knows right from wrong.

  25. First off the Beatles were probably the first group to actually have popular rock and roll they started a nation wide revolution of new things and experimentation. What i still don't understand though is that if he was so obsessed with him and was a beatles fan why would he kill him? Thats the type of thing that really makes you think, because if he pleaded in his hearing to be insane and then they said that he wasn't then that must be that there was a reason. People of course when the heard of his death mourned while also hating mercilessly Chapman. Chapman though continues to try to get parol but is still being denied that and is still in prison.

John Lennon, a magnificent musician/songwriter. Decmber 8, 1980, Innocent as ever, life taken in front of his wife by four shots. Gentleman by the name of David Chapman waited outside songwrtiter Lennon’s home till he got back home to kill him. Chapman was sentenced only 20 years, despite his mental sickness. His peaceful soul later died that night at Manhattan’s Roosevelt Hospital. Lennon impacted a lot of people, starting with his wife and son he left behind, then his fans. His music was loved so much and once he was killed it all changed. The group Beatles were deeply affected that it drew them apart. The Beatles impacted America because of their originative lyrics, their popularity and success. May His Soul Continue to Rest In Paradise.

  28. John Lennon's killer in my opinion is a terrible person for killing him in my opinion straight out of jealously. He knew he was going to kill one of the most popular band member in history in the 1970's. I personally think the killer should be sentenced to more years in prison. John Lennon dead was an impact to America by making the Beetles to non-rock fans popular. John Lennon didn't deserve to die. Even to this day, the Beetles are extremely popular to this day and their count on fans doubled. R.i.p John Lennon.

  29. First off I'd like to say that the death of John Lennon was truly a sad story God rest his Soul. Reading stories and furthering my information I would say that Chapman killing Lennon was a horrible and unnecessary thing. There was absolutely no reason for him to be killed. John Lennon was an activist and well rounded guy in my opinion. John Lennon was a member of the Beatles. The Beatles who's music had a great impact on the world. Their music made a difference and comforted many lives. Continuing on Lennon's murder I feel like the sentencing wasn't well done. Why? The reason is because 20 years doesn't mean anything. You toke someones life there shouldn't allow anyone who toke an other's to be free. Another reason why is because he was put in psychiatric treatment. For what, he was completely aware of why he did what he did. In conclusion I would like to say John Lennon was truly loved and no one deserved to be murdered. Lennon and the Beatles made a great impact on the world and still do today.

  30. It’s a shame when innocent people die for no reason. John Lennon was only 40 years old when he was assassinated, leaving behind a wife and children. John Lennon was once part of the 60’s band, The Beatles, whose music is still famous today. He was also a phenomenal song writer, and a peace activist. John Lennon’s death was a great tragedy to the people of American and the music industry.
I don’t particularly understand why John Mark Chapman wanted to kill John Lennon in the first place. Mark Chapman was a supposed to be die-hard fan, so why would he want to kill his idol? He was sentenced to 20 years to death in prison.

  31. John Lennon's assassination is a very sad story. First off it was unnecessary because supposively he was his idol and I just don’t get why he would want to kill his idol. Second, the impact on John Lennon's murder was very big because he was a famous artist. Not only that but many people such as Chapman saw Lennon as an idol. What Chapman did was unnecessary for killing such a famous guy leaving his children without a father and a wife without a husband. Chapman was sentenced 20-years to life fro killing an innocent man that all he did was sing and write music.

  32. John Lennon died on December 8, 1980. He was murder by Mark David Chapman. John Lennon's death came as a shock to the whole nation and the world. The nation was completely caught by surprise by his death. On August 24, 1981 Mark David Chapmen was sentenced to 20 years in prison, which personally I think was to little. I believe he should have been sentenced to life in prison because killing someone is completely wrong and anybody who does should stay in prison for their entire life. 33. The story of John Lennon's untimely death is a sad and tragic one. He was an amazing singer and lyricist and formed a band that led to the biggest thing in music at the time. The killer, in my opinion had to have been crazed. The fact that he was a Beatles fan says it all. What other reason would he kill him? But whats really chilling is that Chapman stayed at the scene while John was dying on the pavement reading a book he was obsessed with. Of course thousands of dedicated Beatles fans were devastated by the tragedy and the band would never be the same again. The Beatles impacted the world with their peaceful messages behind their music and graced them with their wonderful personalities. John Lennon's death was untimely and tragic but he will be remembered and a peaceful, song writer and singer for the rest of music's history.

  34. I think that Mark David Chapman was crazy to kill a celebrity. John Lennon was very famous in being in one of the best bands, The Beatles, and that Mark David Chapman was probably jealous of him. I know that Chapman had problems but at his age he should have learned that killing is never good. Since December 8, 1980, the day Lennon was killed, music has never been the same. People have always liked The Beatles and still do today but knowing that one of them was murdered is not a good feeling. Mark David Chapman the person responsible for killing John is someone ,in my opinion, who has mental problems just because of his actions. He first asks for his autograph outside of John's house then waits for John to come home later on to shoot him four times instead of running stays there and reads his FAVORITE book and waits for the police.
