  3. The assassination of William McKinley occurred on September 6, 1901, inside the Temple of Music located on the grounds of the 1901 Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. United States President William McKinley was visiting the Exposition and was standing in a receiving line shaking hands with ordinary citizens when he was shot twice by Leon Czolgosz. It was after McKinley's murder that the U.S. Congress passed legislation to officially charge the Secret Service with the responsibility for providing the physical protection of all U.S. presidents. McKinley had been shaking hands for approximately ten minutes when Cortelyou left his side to shut the doors. McKinley reached out to take Czolgosz's "bandaged" hand, but before he could shake it Czolgosz pulled the trigger twice. He was extremely popular but the fact is the chance that an assassination happening to our president because of our secret services.

  4. President Mckinley was a very popular president. He was shot but he survived to live another week then suffered an infection but later died. He promoted peace and prosperity. Czolgosz, on the other hand, was a part of and anarchist cause and had shot and killed the king of Italy. Czolgosz decided to kill McKinley to further that cause. With the heighten measures security we have today, I believe it is harder to open fire on the President we have today. Barack Obama is our first black president and there are still traces of racism today. Due to our President's ethnicity, security measure should be even greater heighten.

Sometimes people become obsessed in the things they believe in. Leon Czolgosz was a man who was swayed strongly into the ideals of Anarchy, where there is no government to rule, just the people. He even went as far as to shoot the President, President McKinley, who ended up dying from a gangrene infection from the shot. President McKinley was popular among the people, but he was an enemy to the strong believers of Anarchy. But the chance of the current president to die in the same manner has been almost completely eliminated. McKinley was protected by a newly made secret service. And the secret service has changed a lot since those days. We have better weapons, technology, and sources to stop threats from killing the president.

  7. President William McKinley best known for winning fiercely fought elections, while supporting the gold standard and high tariffs. The president was shot due to hatred of a man, named Leo Czolgosz who was inspired by the assassination of King Humbert 1 of Italy. President McKinley was really popular due to great era of prosperity and peacefulness America was going through. After being shot he lived for a week but finally die, due to an infection. The chances of our President being shot today are really low. Essentially because today’s secret service, the president goes anywhere; the secret service investigates the area for a long time, even if the president is going to stay somewhere they interrogate and investigate the life of the workers. Also, metals detectors are used swat squads stand by and police closes a perimeter. Also his bodyguards are always next to him preventing anything that look suspicious and that will put the presidents life in danger.

  8. President McKinley was shot because Leon Czolgosz was inspired by anarchists to create anarchy. President McKinley was a very popular president and America was in a time of peace. Assassinating the president would create anarchy. McKinley almost lived, but his wound developed gangrene and sadly he died. As for our president being shot today, I think the chances of that happening are very small. The Secret Service is made up of the best, well-trained men the government can find in the nation. All Secret Service agents are willing to die to protect the president. The only chance of Obama being assassinated is if a group of hardcore, well-trained and determined Muslim terrorists manage to somehow get past the Secret Service security and attempt to kill the president to further their cause. In my opinion, they're the only ones who could do such a hideous act.

  9. The president McKinley was shot by Czolgosz. He took full responsibility for his crime and didn’t regret a thing. He wanted to kill him because he wanted to extend the anarchist cause. President McKinley was very popular during the time. He survived the gun shot for another week but then dying caused by an infection. I think the chances of our president being shot today are probably rare just because of all the security we have now and days. I still think though, that if someone wants him dead, they will go through all lengths and heights to get it done.

  10. President William McKinley was the 25th president of the United States. He was also a popular president at the time. The president was shot by Czolgosz who was obsessed with Gaetano Bresci, an anarchist, who shot and killed King Humbert I. Czolgosz decided to kill McKinley to further the anarchist cause. McKinley lived one week after he was shot twice but died from a gangrene infection on September 14th. I think the chances of our president being shot today are high but they’re not as high as they were back then. We have a lot of security to make sure nothing serious like that happens, but you never know what will happen.

  11. President William McKinley was loved by many Americans and his country was in the midst of peace and prosperity. Unfortunately, his existence ended in a very short period of time. Mckinley was shot at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. An anarchist named Gzologsz had shot the President twice - not once, at point-blank range. William lived another horrifying week before succumbing to a gangrene infection. Czologsz was supposely "jealous" so he decided to kill McKinley to further the ararchist cause. The chances of our President being shot in the present time is a little ridiculous but ANYTHING can happen. In the White House, there is probably hundreds of his top security guards that protect the President and look out for him. And lastly, the President uses undercover cameras inside and outside of the White House to see if anyone even dares to go inside without permission, or even try to pull anything on the President.

  12. September 6, 1901, U.S. President William McKinley spent the morning visiting Niagara Falls with his wife before returning to the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York in the spend a few minutes greeting the public. President McKinley stood inside the Temple of Music building at the Exposition, ready to begin shaking the hands of the public as they streamed into the building. Among those waiting outside was 28-year-old anarchist Leon Czolgosz who was planning to kill President McKinley. President McKinley, the 25th president of the United States, was a popular president who had just started his second term in office and the people seemed clearly glad to get a chance to meet him. However, Leon had made it into the building and it was his turn to greet the President. Leon’s right hand, held a .32 caliber revolver-Johnson revolver, which he had covered by wrapping a handkerchief around the gun and his hand. brought up his right hand to President McKinley's chest and then fired two shots. One of the bullets didn't enter the president - some say it bounced off of a button or off the president's sternum and then got tucked into his clothing. The other bullet, however, entered the president's abdomen, tearing through his stomach, pancreas, and kidney. After the shooting they found the best doctors and operated on him they did their best to take out parts of the bullet and as they saw there wasn’t any more they sewed him up but after days passed they realized he caught and infection and was dying . Chances of a president being shot today are slim to none there is way more protection than back in the day.

  13. President William McKinley was shot September 6 at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. McKinley was greeting the crowd in the Temple of Music when Leon Czolgosz, an anarchist, held the gun in his hand and reached over as if he was going to greet the president when in reality he shit him two times. McKinley survived two weeks but then he got gangrene and died. President McKinley was very popular at the time, he seemed like a very nice man with strong religious beliefs. After this tragedy occurred they set up what we have today called the secret service. The chances of this incident ever happening again are not likely. The men part of the secret service are designed to take a bullet for the president.

On septembe 6 in the year 1901 the president William Mckinley was shot in New York, by a man named Czolgosz who decided to kill him because of the anarchist cause. He was a very popular man in that moment and he also was on the period of peace and prosperity. After they shot him he went inmidetlay to the hospital and they operated, he was going good but after a week he died.
I believe that with the safety that the presidents have now is impossible for someone to enter with a gun in a event like that, in my opinion the security is now much stronger and I do not think it something like that can happen.

President McKinely was greeting the crowd in Buffalo, New York when anarchist Leon Czolgosz stepped forward and shot Mckinely twice in point blank range. Czolgosz thought that by shooting the president this would further the anarchist cause. At first it was thought that the president was recovering well but he later fell victim to a gangrene infection and passed away. The president was quite popular in the American eye due to the fact that the country was in a time of both peace and prosperity. Thankfully, now a days there are many service groups that work for the protection of the president and his family. Background checks are conducted, areas are investigated, and the President is never left without the supervision of someone in the secret service. The people that are hired to serve the president are people who are willing to always put their life on the line for the protection of both our president and our country.

  16. I believe President McKinley was shot because Leon Czolgosz was jealous of the power the President had at the time. I think that President McKinley was well liked. the people really respected him and had great interests in getting to know him. After the shooting President McKinley was alive but suffered many injuries. He seemed to be recovering very well when everything took a turn for the worse. He slipped into a coma and a few days later died. I think that the chances of our current President being shot with the heighten security measures is very slim. Today all of the people that are in charge of the President's safety are very aware of the surrounding and wouldn't let the President out of their sights.

  17. The president of the timewas William McKinley, who was shot by Czolgosz, a laborer from Cleveland who fell under the ways of anarchy and what the idea would create and cause. He did not hesitate in taking full blame and responsibility for what he had done, which was shoot the president. President McKinley was a very popular man at the time, he was not hated. He didn’t die from the gun shot, he died a week later because of the infection. I think the chances of our president getting shot today are very slim, because of how tight the security is now and the precautions they have to take if anything were to ever happen.

  18. President William McKinley was shot on September, 6 at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. After being shot he lived for another week, he died on September 14. At the time president McKinley was a popular president who wasn't hated at all. The chances of our president now being shot are very slim due to the fact secret service is very tight and watch from every angle. For someone to go through the secret service and even have a remotely close shot at the president would be near to impossible, even on the account that several Americans do not like what he is doing to the country. I believe that the secret service does a well enough job to keep the president out of trouble for most causes.

  19. President McKinley was a very popular president in America at the time. He was in the process of searching for peace and gaining prosperity for his country. He seemed like a very humble man. He was shot by a man named Leon Czolgosz, an anarchist that fell under the sway of charismatic leaders, in the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. I believe that with the security that McKinley had during his presidency, his men should have been more protecting. I think that if that situation were to happen to our president I would be surprised because of all the technology we have. But at the same token, it COULD happen due to all the tech. we have!

After the shooting, McKinley lived for another week until he died of an infection on September 14. He was a very popular and lovable man who took office at a time of peace. There are very few chances of our President being shot today. With all the security we have nowadays, it will be very tough getting through to shoot the President. I think the President is under good protection and I don't think the secret service will allow it to ever get that far.

  21. President McKinley was assassinated by an anarchist, Leon Czolgosz, for no reason. The Secret Service were caught by surprise and didnt think anything of the man, because numerous amounts of people were walking into the Temple of Music and were being greeted by the president, until the shots were fired. President McKinley died after a week of being in the hospital. He was a very popular man, it was during the time of peace and prosperity in America. My personal opinion on the president being assassinated today with all the protection, is very unlikely due to the fact that at all the events he/she has about 5 gaurds just feet away and they have trained gun men and snipers patrolling the area and on the roof tops of the neighboring buildings.

On September 6, 1901, inside the Temple of Music, McKinley was visiting the Exposition and was standing in a receiving line shaking hands with ordinary citizens when he was shot twice by Leon Czolgosz, an anarchist. At the time of the shooting, McKinley was very popular and America was in the midst of a period of peace and prosperity. He initially appeared to be recovering from his wounds, but took a turn for the worse on September 12, six days after the shooting. Over the course of the next two days his health quickly deteriorated and he died on September 14, 1901. Although we have heightened security measures today, anything is possible, and our President does have the chance of being shot at any moment; however chances are really low of this happening, thank goodness!

  24. As 25th president of the time, William McKinley Jr. was a leader worthy of looking up to. He was a man of prosperity and kindness. In the year 1901, President McKinley was shot by an anarchist, Leon Czolgosz, who was obsessed and wanted to follow in the footsteps of people like Emma Goldman, Alexander Berkman, and Gaetano Bresci. He was trying to further the cause of anarchy, which is why he shot the president. President McKinley was very popular at the time; it was very disheartening that he died a week after his shooting from gangrene infection on September 14th. I think the chances of our president being shot today are very slim. With all the new advances we have these days like: bullet proof vests, bullet proof windows, and secret service for days, it’s very unlikely that the president would be that easy to get to. However , you never know, the only thing you can do is to have faith.

That happened in 1901, now in 2011 I do not see this happening.

President McKinley was shot by Leon Czolgosz, an anarchist. Leon Czolgosz shot President McKinley because he thought it would benefit the anarchist cause. He was influenced by the charismatic leaders of anarchy such as Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman. Czolgosz became particularly obsessed with Gaetano Bresci, an anarchist who shot and killed King Humbert I of Italy on July 29, 1900. At the time of shooting, McKinley was very popular. He survived for a week before succumbing to a gangrene infection and died on the 14 of September. I do not think that the current president has a high chance of being shot; he has the secret service, and now, modern security, like bulletproof glass, and armored vehicles.

Even though President McKinley was very popular at the time, on September 6,2011 he was shot twice by Leon Czologosz. Czologosz was a laborer from Cleveland who wanted to further an anarchist cause after becoming obsessed with Gaetano Bresci. Bresci killed King Humbert for the same cause. Two preceding presidents had been shot: Lincoln and Garfield. After those shootings security was heightened and the Secret Service was created. Presdient McKinley did die as a result of the shooting, he went to a coma and died. Czologosz was sentenced to the electric chair for the assassination of President McKinley.I doubt someone today could assassinate our president because of all the security we have, but anything is possible. I think it would be extremely difficult after the terrorist attacks to assassinate a president since security has tremendously increased.

The chances of a president being shot today or very low because of the precaution the security takes. Don’t get me wrong it could happen nothing is impossible but the chances of a president getting shot today are very, very low because you’d have to be either an excellent marksman or do something really crazy to get a shot at him.

Leon Czolgosz, a laborer, shot him on the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York when he was greeting the President. Czolgosz decided to kill the McKinley because, Gaetano Bresci, an anarchist whom he admired, shot and killed King Humbert I, and wanted to maintain the anarchist cause. President McKinley was shot twice, one on his shoulder, and the other one his stomach on September 6. He recovered from a surgery, but later fell into a coma due to a gangrene infection, and died a week later on Sept. 14. The chances of our President being shot today are very low. The security goes through extreme measures to avoid anything happening to the President.

  33. President William McKinley was a very popular and loved president in the early 1900s. While greeting the crowd at an exposition in Buffalo, New York when an anarchist by the name of Leon Czolgosz stepped forward from the crowd, pointed the gun at McKinley & shot him twice at point blank range. McKinley managed to stick it out until September 14th, when he finally gave in to a gangrene infection and eventually died. While America was at a time of a great peace and prosperity, Czolgosz who was a laborer from Cleveland at the time, was easily persuaded by two well known anarchists to join them. Czolgosz became particularly obsessed with one anarchist who killed the king of Italy in 1900 and therefore decided to further the cause by killing a president of his own. Nowadays, I believe the chances for any one of our country leaders getting assassinated is slim to none. Literally everything in Washington D.C. is monitored or under complete surveillance at all times. The president can’t even interact with crowds of people without there being a full 360 security barrier. However since our current president is African American, many Americans out there are still in dismay about that and would like to see him replace or worse- killed. Security should pay even more attention to our president to ensure his safety in the white house.

He was shot while visiting the Exposition and was standing in a line shaking hands and greeting others. The president was extremely popular at the time of him being shot. At this time, America was at a peaceful and tranquil stage. Czolgosz tried to murder McKinley because he worshiped Gaetano Bresci which killed King Humbert I of Italy. Czologosz tried to further the anarchist cause. President William McKinley did not die from the wound of the shots although he was in severe pain. Sadly, a week later he passed away from a gangrene infection. Now, I believe it would be much more difficult to kill or even harm the president because there is a lot more protection.

President McKinley was shot because a man named Leon Czolgosz was an anarchist who became obsessed with Gaetano Bresci, another anarchist, who shot and killed King Humbert I of Italy so he killed McKinley make the anarchist cause popular. At this time, McKinley was very popular. At first he lived after he was shot, but after a week he lapsed into a coma and died. I think the chances of our President being shot today will be very difficult because today the security measures are very complex and have improved over time so these kinds of situations won’t happen again.

  36. The president was shot because the killer, Leon Czolgosz was against the presidents views. Also he shot McKinley to further the anarchist cause. McKinley was popular with the Nation. Around his presidency the United States was reaching peace and prosperity. McKinley later died due to his injuries. He had an infection and slipped into a coma. Our president being shot now a day would be unlikely because our secret service is excellent. The secret service is willing to die for our president and protect our country. Wherever a president is located there is more than likely secret services hiding in the crowd pretending to be regular bystanders.

  37. President McKinley was shot in New York on September 6th 1901, to die the next week of gangrene infection. Even though he was mostly popular within the general public, an anarchist by the name of Leon Czolgosz, inspired by recent waves and acts of anarchy throughout the world, thought to further the cause by killing President McKinley. Since the newly formed secret service was still trying to figure out how tight to make security, they unnoticed the concealed revolver that was being held by the anarchist. I could only assume after this incident, security was tightened over time, and again after JFK's assassination, to what we have today.

Czolgosz wanted to kill McKinley to keep the anarchist cause alive. McKinley was mostly liked at the time, especially since we was president in a time of peace and prosperity, although there were some people who did not like him. He went into a coma and died a week after being shot twice with a .32 revolver at point blank. It would be much harder to kill the president today, especially in the way McKinley was shot. Security measures are now exaggerated for "just in case" procedures. The president is always covered and surrounded and the people he interacts with are always checked. It is probably still possible but it would take much time, effort, and planning.

  39. President Mckinley was shot on September 6, 1901. On this day we remember him and the tragedy that occurred that fateful day. Leon Czolgosz, a man persuaded to be an anarchist approached the president and shot him twice from point blank. The president survived the attack, but for only one week before a gangrene infection. McKinley's death must have been tragic to the American people, for he was a popular president and was about to begin a very prosperous time in office. On another note chances of another president being assassinated are very slim for the new advances in security.

  41. President McKinley got shot in Buffalo, New York at the Pan-American Exposition. The man who shot him did so discreetly by hiding a gun under a handkerchief. The reason he shot him was because he believed in anarchy, and had been inspired by another person who assassinated a different ruler. The president seemed to be popular, as he was greeting a crowd moments before his assassination. Even though he was shot two times, the McKinley lived about a week before his ultimate death. President McKinley was greeting a crowd at Temple of Music at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York when Leon Czolgosz stepped forward and shot him. I think the president was shot because Czolgosz was jealous or did not like something that McKinley was doing. I think President McKinley was a well like and very religious man, and that also could have been the reason why Czolgosz shot him, he probably did not like his religious views. Honestly, I don’t ever think that something like this will ever happen again because they created the secret services which is made to protect the president even if that means that they have to be shot themselves.

After reading this I have noticed security has changed from then to now, becoming more strict. If our President today were to greet a crowd he would have tons of security around him to the point where you may not even be able to see him. If not that he wouldn't be able to greet no one unless it is from a certain distance. When the President comes to town there is also a ridiculous amount of security cars following him, making sure he is secure in every way. I'am not going to say killing a President today would be impossible but it's going to take a person a lot of planning in order to do that.
