  1. The First televised presidential debate was the Kennedy- Nixon Debate. Kennedy won this election. The impact was subtle and only seemed to strengthen existing alliances rather than create new ones. Most importantly the great debates forced citizens to rethink how democracy would work in television era. Yes, I have seen a debate and the debate has a huge part in the presidential election.

John F. Kennedy won the election. Because of the televised debate, Kennedy won almost 50 percent of the popular vote in the one of the closet presidential elections in U.S. history. I haven’t seen a full length debate but I’ve seen many civil arguments. Having a Presidential race is very impacting and mostly important. Debates allow the people that are voting to view how well prepared the Presidential candidate is towards challenges placed on the spot and how well they are in reacting to attacks and important issues we face today. Seeing debates also allow the people who are voting to get more of a feel on what the candidate stands for, procedures and ethics.

  3. In the Presidential Election of 1960 John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Richard Milhouse Nixon were in a series of debates that were different from past debates. The biggest debate was nationally televised. The Democratic candidate, Senator Kennedy from Massachusetts, and Vice President Nixon were competing in this on going battle. The first debate was domestic conflicts and, the second was foreign policy. On September 26, 1960 the first debate took place in Chicago. Kennedy won the first debate although Nixon and his share of wins on last and final debate Kennedy took the win. Along with as winning the debate Kennedy also beat Nixon in the run for president.

  4. The first debate televised in the United States, was between John Kennedy a Democratic senator of Massachusetts and Richard Nixon the vice president of the United States, it was really important the debate was in Chicago.
This was a big impact for the United States because noon one have ever watch something like this.
In the debate Kennedy looks a lot stronger than Richard, because he was with more confidence. Kennedy win the debate with a 49.7% and Nixon had a 49.6%.
I think a debate is really important in the Presidential race because of that a lot of opinions of the people can come around.

For the first time two presidential canditates John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon were the first to have a televised debate on national television. Kennedy appeared to look more at ease with the debates while Nixon looked to be more anxious and nervous. Kennedy ended winning the popular vote and later the presidency. By this debate being televised the nation was given a certain image about the two canditates. Would you rather have the man who looked to be calm in apperance, Kennedy. Or would you rather have someone who looked to be nervous and distressed about the whole situation. The obvious answer would be that America would want a president that will stay calm in all situations.
I have watched a televised debate before and I believe that although they sometimes may project a certain image of a person that may not necessarily be true, they help the people who are voting form an opinion on the candidates and see what it is that they have to offer.

  6. The first ever televised presidential debate was between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon. The winner was JFK which helped him gain popularity because of his calm demeanor in front of the camera unlike Nixon. Later on Nixon won the next two televised debates however Kennedy won the presidential election by 0.1 point. Because of this debate being televised it started a new tradition that has occurred for almost every election. These debates help the candidates because the public gets to see the candidates view point on important issues and what would be changed if they were elected president of the United States.

  7. The first televised presidental debate was between John F. Kennedy. John F. Kennedy, was a Democratic senator of Massachusetts.Richard M. Nixon, was the vice president of the United States he was republican. On November 8, Kennedy won 49.7 percent of the popular vote in one of the closest presidential elections in U.S. history, surpassing by a fraction the 49.6 percent received by his Republican opponent. I think this was an good idea to start in history because here we are years later looking at different president election each year.3

  8. The first time in U.S. history, a debate between major party presidential candidates is shown on television. The presidential debate was between John F. Kennedy( Democratic senator of Massachusetts) and RIchard M. Nixon( Republican vice president of the United States). Kennedy was the apparent winner from the first of four televised debates. On November 8th,Kennedy won 49.7 percent of the popular vote. I believe a big boost in the winning of John F. Kennedy's presidential debate was that he presented himself better on the televised debates rather than Nixon.

  9. The election was won by President John F. Kennedy. It caused a great impact in the population everybody was anxious to watch such an important debate. First of all because it was about the two candidates running for election to become president; also because the two presidents will discuss what were they plans for our nation, if they will be elected to be The President. Yes I watch the last presidential debate I have to say it was quite interesting; one of the main reasons because one of the candidates was african american, so it was quite intriguing because it was the first time that USA was going to have the possibility to have a african american president. In addition it was quite interesting because I wanted to know what were their plans in terms of the war, economy and how will they help the citizens of this country.

  10. (E:BLOCK)The election was won by the democratic senator of Massachusetts, John F. Kennedy. The impact of having the first ever televised debate was huge. Airing a debate on television allows viewers to come up with thoughts about a candidate and also allows the viewers to see how well the candidate does under pressure, or if their demeanor changes. No, I have not really watched a debate full out before, however I do feel that these debates do create a great impact. Unfortunately, people don’t pay attention to the important things of a debate; mostly physical appearances and other superficial qualities. Sometimes, that can be a real blow to the candidate who might not have the right clothes, but the right things to say that matter to the outcome of our country. That says a lot about our country as a whole and the way our society thinks.

  11. In this debate John F. Kenndey beat Richard Nixon, it was one of the closest if not the closest debate in U.S. history, Kenndey won 49.7% while nixon recieved 49.6% of the votes. Since this was the first televised debate in U.S. History, more people were allowed to see it because they didnt have to travel to the certain location, in which the debate was being held, they could simply see it in the comfort of there own homes. I have seen a debate on television before, it was between Obama and McCain. A debate has a very important impact in a presidential race because it is how the U.S. citizens know what each candidate is running for and what they have to offer and what they want for the near future.

  12. The debate between democratic, John F. Kennedy and the vice-president Richard Nixon was the first ever debate to be shown on national television. Kennedy won the first debate, but Nixon returned and won the following two televised debates. After all, John F. Kennedy won one of the closest presidential elections ever. Televised presidential debates have been a part of every presidential election since 1976. I do believe that televising these events to the public is important because then everyone has an idea of what is happening. Ever since they began to televise presidential debates I believe that more people are involved and follow these elections because it is easy for them to watch the two candidates sit and argue their points and beliefs.

  13. Kennedy emerged the apparent winner from this first of four televised debates, partly owing to his greater ease before the camera than Nixon, who, unlike Kennedy, seemed nervous and declined to wear makeup. I've never seen of taken part in an election but it does have a big impact in apresedential election. -Jorge Travieso

  15. Kennedy's election was purely based on the debate on television. His opponent was Vice President Richard Nixon. They met in Chicago to discuss U.S. Domestic Matters. Kennedy won his first four televised debates. Less than 3 weeks after the 4th televised debate. On November, 8th Kennedy had won 50% of the votes. Almost 50% of those votes where from his opposing Republican party. Nixon, after leaving his vice presidency decides to run for Governor of California. In which he was nominated by his Republican party. Although he lost he tried running for president again in 1968. I commend Nixon's actions for not stopping when he kept on failing, this action showed me he had determination.

  16. The first televised debate (Kennedy vs. Nixon) was a great milestone in American history. Kennedy's calm and relaxed nature during the televised debate earned him favor by the crowds, allowing him to win the election. And having the debate televised allowed him to give his ideas out to more people, not only to the people who were there, but also to the people watching from their homes, which probably had a big impact on the debate. Besides, the fact that is the first televised debate gave them both publicity. And i personallly haven't seen a debate myself, but i have a greater chance of seeing it on TV than going to the place the debate is held and seeing it for myself.

  17. The First ever televised presidential debate was the Kennedy- Nixon Debate, Kennedy went on to win the election.since Kennedy was more calm and relaxed on the air, that gave him an advantage he needed. this is the closest debate in the u.s. history, to today's date.it was so close because the whole event was televised and gave them both a lot of publicity, meaning they can be seen and heard of more.Yes, i saw the Barrack Obama, and John McCain debate. a debate has a huge role in a presidential race, because it displays how they are in public, and how they can act on a situation as big as a debate.

  18. The John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon debate was and has been one of the most popular presidential debates in American history because it was the first to be televised. Kennedy was ready to go and was not nervous at all but Johnson on the other hand was so nervous that he refused to wear makeup. Kennedy ended up winning 49.7% to Johnson's 49.6%. It is amazing how much appearance can do. I saw the Obama - McCain debate and it was amazing how much what they say there goes into consideration when voter go to vote. i think that it is such a big impact on voters because they can see how their candidate can stand up for what he supports.

  19. In the first televised presidential debate Kennedy actually ended up winning the election. At the time TV was a new fresh idea and a great opportunity to take it to its full advantage; televising the first ever presidential election in this case. Most people I believe felt united and had a voice in the election. The only debate I can ever recall watching was the Barack Obama and John McCain election on TV. When the first election was televised it was reassuring to the people of the U.S and made it seem more like a reality. Making a huge impact on the voters by being able to grasp what the candidates stood for. -kaffy <3

  21. The candidates for the first televised presidential debate were John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon. Kennedy was the winner of this election. The impact with having the debate on national television was a big deal. People got the opportunity to see what was happening during the election and got to understand the situation between the candidates better. They get to see how the candidates really act and what decisions they would like to make. I have never really seen a full debate before, but I think they are very important and have a huge impact. People can become more involved in the politics and know what's actually going on with our government.

The impact of having the first ever televised debate was such a change for everyone. The men needed to get used to wearing make up and being in front of cameras. I have seen many debates before. Debates are very interesting to me because you see everything that is happening miles away right in the comfort of your own house. The debate portion of the elections has the biggest impact in the Presidential race. Everything is live so you can not mess up or choke in front of the crowd.

With the new medium of television taking hold, the candidates agreed to debate each other for the first time on national television. In the end, Kennedy prevailed and won the presidency. The first televised debate resulted in candidate being more award of the effect of their appearances to the public eye, and there would much more debates televised late on. The first presidential debate was between John. F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon. Kennedy won that first out of the four televised debate. I think that it was definitely nerve-wrecking for the both of them to be on a televised debate considering the fact that it was a new idea and they did not know exactly the way it would work out. I watch presidential debates because sometimes they are interesting. I don't necessarily always understand them though. Regardless, I think it is important for voters to watch these debates. Since they are televised it is easier for the nation to simply turn on their TV to a basic cable channel and watch the presidential candidates. The debate being on TV allows viewers to watch it and create their ideas about the candidates based on their answers to domestic matters.

  26. The first televised, presidential debate was against John F. Kennedy and his opponent Richard M. Nixon. It was held in a Chicago studio in the 1960s. The votes were very close, but on November 8, 1960 John F. Kennedy won. He had 49.7% of the vote, opposed to Nixon who closely had 49.6%. I believe having the first live Presidential debate could’ve been scary and overwhelming for both of the candidates. Kennedy seemed calmed, which the public favored, opposing to Nixon, who seemed nervous. I’ve seen a debate before and find an interest on the candidates’ speech/arguments. I find a powerful argument to have an big impact on the Presidential race. However, being able to watch the candidate’s debate can give anyone a better view of what he/she can expect from each candidate.

The First televised presidential debate was with Richard M. Nixon and John F. Kennedy. John F. Kennedy won the election that year. Kennedy won with a 00.1% lead over Nixon; Kennedy had 49.7% in the Democrat Party, while Nixon had 49.6% in the Republican Party. The fact that the debate was televised meant that the entire nation could see the debate going on, as it was happening. No, I have never seen a debate before. The impact of having the first ever televised debate was that the voters got to really understand their future President's views. The people could get a better understanding of Kennedy and Nixon and the debate could either help their chances of winning the election or really hurt them. I in fact have seen a Presidential debate on television, the debate I saw was between President Obama and John McCain. First of all, John F. Kennedy won the election in 1960. The impact of it being the first ever televised debate let a lot more people around the country to see how the debate between presidents were like. I have seen a debate once, but I only watched it for a little while. The way how big of an impact a debate has in a Presidential race is that the candidate has to look like they’re not afraid and know what they’re doing. Without that, people may not for the candidate like Nixon because he was too nervous, but Kennedy looked sharp and knew what he was doing which helped in the long run.

  32. On September 26 1960, John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon were put on national television to discuss U.S domestic matters. Kennedy took the stage with composure and makeup too, but Nixon decided to go up without makeup and was apparently nervous and not as smooth as Kennedy was.
I have never seen a presidential debate before, but I’ve heard about them on the news and from my parents; from what I’ve heard, they play a big part in the voting. The questions thrown at the candidates put them in a position where they have to act quickly and easily and it is from their answers that people decide if this will be their future president.
This televised debate probably gave Kennedy the advantage he needed to win the election.

  33. This article is about the first ever televised broadcast of a presidential election. The election was ultimately won by Kennedy. The fact that the event was televised seems to have a big impact in a couple of ways. It was made available more a lot more people to watch now, so there was a bigger audience. Also, the camera seemed to make Nixon a bit nervous and uncomfortable, which may have affected his role in the debate. Yes, I have seen a debate before, I believe. The impact of this was that it allowed people to see the differences between the people running up to become the next President of the United States. One Presidential debate I saw on television was the most recent one between Barrack Obama and John McCain. Debates have big impacts by showing the many differences between each participant.

  35. The first ever televised presidential debate was between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon. There were for in total between the 2 candidates with Kennedy winning the first of the 4. At the end of the race for president Kennedy would be elected by just a fraction of a percent. 49.7% to 49.6%. the impact of having a presidential debate televised seemed to influence voters for both sides. I have seen a presidential debate before. One between George Bush and John Kerry and another between Barrack Obama and John McCain. A presidential debate has a large impact on the two sides because people get a taste and a look at what each person would be like as president.

The televised Great Debates had a great impact on voters then, on national elections since then, and on our concerns for democracy itself. 39. The election was won by John F. Kennedy. The impact of having the first ever televised debate was colossal. With a national debate being on television, it makes viewers come up with their own perceptions about a candidate along with being able to see how well the candidate does under pressure, or if they would start to change. It also gives voters a feel as to what the candidate is for and what he/she opposes as well. Although, I have never watched a full debate before, I think debates make a huge difference on people’s decisions and outlook on different candidates. Without these presidential debates, Americans voting would be biased.

Also since it was televised people were able to see how much relaxed John F.Kennedy was then Richard M. Nixon, this telling the people who is best put under pressure. This really help John F. Kennedy so on November 8, it was said that Kennedy won 49.7% of the popular vote and Richard M. Nixon only won 49.6%. Because of this John F. Kennedy won the election. 41. JOhn F. kennedy emerged victorious in the first ever televised presidential debate, held in Chicago, Illinois. I believe the impact of telivised presidential debates is a big one, ironically, for the entertainment aspect of it. What I mean by that is now we can watch our future leaders speak while in the comfort of our own homes and have family discussions about the direction in which our country is going. I have seen one. The first one that I've ever seen was between our current president, Barack Obama, and Senator John McCain. I appreciated it because though I wanted Obama to win, I kept an open mind and saw that McCain made some valid points as well. For this reason, I believe televised debates have a big impact on the presidential race. It gives us a more down-to-earth perspective.
