  1. the writer did make an offensive remark but i don't believe he deserves to get fired. he is well in the first amendment, under freedom of the press, can write what he wants. Even through it was a offensive comment i think espn fired him to make a bigger point and try to take the people's attention from the comment he made to the firing. in conclusion he did make a very offensive comment he was well in h right but still lost his job because espn is responsible for the way people view them.

Any “joke” or remark that has to do with anyone’s race shouldn’t be taken lightly. I understand and totally get race jokes but when you’re in a public spotlight, things tend to get twisted up and out of hand. I do doubt however that the anchormen did not mean to offend Lin. As for them being fired, that was a little extreme. If Lin was actually really offended, I’m sure he would’ve condoled them being fired, but when Lin was asked about the whole thing he was over it and dint care anymore. That just saw you how the media always blows things out of proportion. I don’t think the writer went beyond the first amendment because the first amendments means that congress will make no laws based on religion, and they will not take away anyone's right to practice whatever religion they wish. Also that they will not shorten or take away our right to speak as we please, our right to cover stories and document stories (press) and our right to PEACEably come together and protest something we do not like.

  3. Although not done intentionally, the writer was well aware of what the offensive mark meant. As an ESPN writer it is important to tell the news but not at the expense of making a racist remark. I do not believe he should have been fired but disciplinary action had to have taken place. The constitution does state that we have a freedom of speech but certain things just should not be said. I mean America has a long history of racism so anything that is said will not be taken lightly.

  4. I believe that the writer should not be punished for the remark that was said on the air. THe racial slur that some people say it is was most likey not intended the way many people took it.I personally think that people take things way to serious and it should not be taken to heart. The reporter and the writer should not have benn fired for this ridicuiolus reason.

Yes, I think what Federico said about Jeremy was offensive beacuse he had no right in saying such a racial slur. The writer shouldn't had been fired because they took it really serious, even though he said a racial slur he should've been punished another way and not take away his career. Well the first amendment says that we have the freedom of speech, respecting an establishment of religion and ect. The writer did go a little bit to far but at the same time we also have the freedom of speech. It sucks that its this way but its the law and everybody should obey it.

  6. I strongly believe that it was a offensive remark. It was rude and next time he should watch out what he says. Even if it was a joke or not making races comments is disrespectful to people. It makes me really mad to hear that people still haven't gotten over racism. It think that no one is perfect he shouldn't get fired because God didn't make us perfect but i hope he learns from his lesson. We do have the right to say what we need to say i think he did go far with the 1st amendment. we have rules and everyone needs to follow it and i guess now he knows to think before he talks.

  7. I believe it was not meant to be offensive for the writer did realize that he had used this word. The writer should not have been fired for he has apologize both to the Company and to the player himself. We are human we all make mistakes even the best of ourselves. I believe he did go beyond the 1st Amendment, even though he did realize that he was doing it unintentionally. Believe that he should have been suspended such as the anchor man was, but understanding from a business point of very it would make the company look bad if they just suspended him, but at the same time the company saved themselves from a lawsuit.

I believe it wasnt meant to be offensive when it was said. I think he meant it in another way and viewers and everyone always has to see things in a bad way. I do not think the writer deserved to be fired because when explaining that he did not mean it in an offensive way and it was a mistake he shouldve just gotten suspended. I honestly dont think anybody would risk getting fired over a slick comment like that. Yes, i believe he followed the first amendment because he is the press and that is the freedom given by the first amendment. People just over reacted because even when there is freedom of the press he apologized because he did not mean it in a bad way.

Yes, I believe his remark was extremely offensive. Although he didn't mean to harm Lin, he should have chosen his words wisely. I don't think he should have been fired though. Writers just as everyone else have freedom of speech as well as freedom of press. A major/minor suspension should have been his punishment. All in all if he just kept his mouth shut, he would not be in this situation.

Im going to keep it a 100 the writer was being a straight up hater, you see this man doing something good repping for his country that went through a major loss a couple years back and he go and write something dumb like that. Its stupidity man... He jist wanted attention. Bit then again he was doing his job, thats what writers suppose to do target the most popular peraon and say something about it to catch others attention. so naw I don't think he should have got fired. I just think he should of apologies to Lin personally. But he a flat out hater though still, however on the real im not a fan of Lin like that. He cool and all but they already calling him them white "Jordan" like is that possible. He is a baller but they need to cut that out though 'B asap. He win a couple of games and now he the man. It takes time to be a great. D-Wade did the same thing he did playing for the heat. But im not hating on him I just think they should just chill. And I don't feel that the writer went beyond the first admendment. He spoke his mind and he's real for that, we all got a freedom of speech. But that hating I don't co-sign that.

    1. I think that was an offensive remark because the writer hates on Jeremy Lin.The writer deserved to be fired because he chose his words the wrong way. Lin didn’t think that the writer mean to say that, it was on purpose. Jeremy is trying to do something good for his country but the writer is saying a phrase that's not even supoosed to be there it's inappropriate. The writer went beyond the 1st amendment and the writer also apologized about saying that about Jeremy and Lin didn’t care anyways but that’s how I feel about this article I tried.

I think the phrase "chink in the armor" is very offensive not only to Lin but to all asian people. The media should try to refrain from using slur racist comments. This individual should be fried and definitely went beyond the first amendment. everyone has a right to express their feelings and emotions but people shouldn't insult or discriminate against others especially on camera in-front of thousands of people. A lot of people think without speaking and i'm sure that it was a joke or to look funny on camera but it went out of hand. he should have thought before opening his mouth to the public about something racist and not measuring his consequences before his actions.

Well I think to me is that the writer of ESPN does not have the rights to talk about any athlets back ground or history. But i guess when the Miami Heat beat the knicks i guess the former writer for ESPN just wrote a lot of craoe to Jeremy Lin and that went beyond the first amendment and a lot of people have right of what they have to say or feel about them selves but if you're gonna talk bad stuff about people especially an athlete like Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, or Chris Bosh then realy the writer is gonna get fired and for the person that read the article will be suspended for thirty days. I guess ESPN did the right thing

I feel what the writer said was very offensive and I can see why everyone was upset. Though I feel he should not have been fired for it. According to the first amendment we have freedom of speech and the writer of this article said beforehand that his writings can be offensive a lot of the time. Yes Jeremy Lin does his job and plays well apart of the New York Knicks team though I feel the writer did not mean “Chinck in the armor” to be offensive to him or the Asian community. We all have freedom of speech and the writer should not have been fired especially after he apologized for saying that derogatory remark. As well as the anchor that was suspended for 30 days. I feel as if the punishments towards these actions were a little to harsh.

I don’t think the writer should have been fired for his honest mistake but I think there should have been some sort of consequence for his choice of words. I think he could have picked a more sensible set of words instead of using the racial slur. Even though the word does have to meaning I don’t think it was a coincidence that Jeremy Lin just so happened to be Asian-American and it made for a good title to an idea he wanted to get across. I don’t believe the news anchor who said it on the air should be in trouble either because he doesn’t just reads what is on the screen.

I do think that this comment was offensive. I think that he should have gotten suspended instead of being fired. I don’t think the reader should have gotten suspended because he is just reading what the writer had written. The first amendment is freedom of the press and freedom of speech. I think that he had the right to say what he said. I understand why they fired him because they didn’t want the public to view them in that way or think that they support his racial slur.
