  1. "Malcolm X" was a name he was known as but he was born with the name Malcolm Little in Omaha, Nebraska May 19, 1925. He was an African American Muslim minister and human rights activist. He said: “I am not a racist... In the past I permitted myself to be used... to make sweeping indictments of all white people, the entire white race, and these generalizations have caused injuries to some whites who perhaps did not deserve to be hurt. Because of the spiritual enlightenment which I was blessed to receive as the result of my recent pilgrimage to the Holy City of Mecca, I no longer subscribe to sweeping indictments of any one race. I am now striving to live the life of a true Sunni Muslim. I must repeat that I am not a racist nor do I subscribe to the tenets of racism. I can state in all sincerity that I wish nothing but freedom, justice and equality, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all people.” (taken from:http://www.islamreligion.com/articles/47) He had grown frustrated with the non-violent, integrated struggle for civil rights and worried that blacks would ultimately lose control of their own movement. As Malcolm was giving a speech, he was shot 16 times up on stage.

  2. Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. Malcolm was the son of James Earl Little, a Baptist preacher who advocated the black nationalist ideals of Marcus Garvey.Threats from the Ku Klux Klan forced the family to move to Lansing, Michigan, where his father continued to preach his controversial sermons. I can see now where Malcolm was influenced in public speaking.Malcolm was a smart, focused student. He graduated from junior high at the top of his class. However, when a favorite teacher told Malcolm his dream of becoming a lawyer was "no realistic goal for a nigger," Malcolm lost interest in school. He dropped out, spent some time in Boston, Massachusetts working various odd jobs, and then traveled to Harlem, New York where he committed petty crimes. By 1942 Malcolm was coordinating various narcotics, prostitution and gambling rings. In 1946 he was arrested and convicted on burglary charges, and Malcolm was sentenced to 10 years in prison. It was there he encountered the teachings of Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the Nation of Islam, whose members are popularly known as Black Muslims. Malcolm then took the last name "X" to symbolize his stolen African identity. Intelligent and articulate, Malcolm was appointed as a minister and national spokesman for the Nation of Islam. At a speaking engagement in the Manhattan's Audubon Ballroom on February 21, 1965 three gunmen rushed Malcolm onstage. They shot him 15 times at close range. The legacy though of Malcolm X has moved through generations as the subject of numerous documentaries, books and movies.

Malcolm always said "I am not educated, nor am I an expert in any particular field... but I am sincere and my sincerity is my credential." Which also lead to Malcolm refusing to Muhammad’s offer to hide the affairs and subsequent children, Years later Malcolm stated "Human rights are something you were born with.Human rights are your God-given rights. To his admirers, he was a courageous advocate for the rights of African Americans, a man who indicted white America in the harshest terms for its crimes against black Americans. There where detractors who accused him of preaching racism, black supremacy, anti-Semitism, and violence. He’s also been called one of the greatest and most influential African Americans in history. By the early 1960s, he had grown frustrated with the non-violent, integrated struggle for civil rights and worried that blacks would ultimately lose control of their own movement. In February 1965, he was killed by members of the Nation of Islam; Malcolm had recently left the organization. But even in death, his teachings lived on in the rhetoric of other black power organizations including the Black Panther Party. As a young man, Malcolm Little, later renamed Malcolm X, drifted between Boston and New York City, cultivating his image as "Detroit Red," a dapper pimp and a dangerous hustler. While in prison for robbery, he educated himself and converted to the Muslim faith. Upon release, Malcolm became active in the Nation of Islam, a black Muslim organization committed to black uplift. He quickly rose to the rank of National Minister, speaking on behalf of the organization in cities across the country.

  11. Malcolm X was a minister and Civil Rights Activist who taught a message of self-realization and personnel responsibility to many people. He was best known as Malcolm X, he lived up to three different respective names Malcolm Little, Malcolm X, and El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. His views that the Western nations were racist and the black people must gather together to form their own society, had an immense influence on Black Nationalists and the black separatist movements of the 1950s and 1960s. His teachings in which he significantly raised the awareness of African Americans in the United States and his ideals on interracial harmony. Malcolm X was originally born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. The racist society that produced and killed Malcolm X, some thought that he was trying to take money from the white men. This assassination destroying what he could have been. He had the greatest leadership potential of any person to emerge directly from the black public.

  13. Malcolm X AKA Malcolm Little was an African American nationalist and religious leader who was fighting for equal rights for all colors and races. Just like Martin Luther King Jr, he fought for freedom and he believed that everyone deserved equal rights in everything that they do. Malcolm X argued: "The American black man should be focusing his every effort toward building his own businesses, and decent homes for himself. As other ethnic groups have done, let the black people, wherever possible, patronize their own kind, and start in those ways to build up the black race's ability to do for itself. That's the only way the American black man is ever going to get respect. One thing the white man never can give the black man is self-respect! The black man never can be become independent and recognized as a human being who is truly equal with other human beings until he has what they have, and until he is doing for himself what others are doing for themselves. The black man in the ghettoes, for instance, has to start self-correcting his own material, moral and spiritual defects and evils. The black man needs to start his own program to get rid of drunkenness, drug addiction, prostitution. The black man in America has to lift up his own sense of values." - Taken from http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/USAmalcolmX.htm
This is what he believed that the black man should do, and what they needed to learn from this society. The nation of Islam were responsible for Malcolm X's death since they viewed him as a disgrace for disrespecting his culture and the things he has done.

Malcolm X was assassinated on February 21, 1965. He was only 39 when he was killed and it was not surprising that Malcolm’s move toward a more inclusive revolutionary movement made him an increasingly important target of state forces such as the FBI and CIA. There is also glaring evidence that such forces were involved in his assassination. Other persons were sought in the plot police described as an apparent outgrowth of the 15-month feud between Malcolm X and the Black Muslims headed by Elijah Muhammad in Chicago. Police, however, did not report any evidence of a link between the assassins and Muhammad’s faithful. When Malcolm X rejected Elijah Muhammad's race-based teachings and embraced traditional Islam, some of Elijah Muhammad's followers targeted him for assassination.

Tensions increased between Malcolm and the Nation of Islam. It was assumed that orders were given by leaders of the Nation of Islam to kill Malcolm; in The Autobiography of Malcolm X, he says that as early as 1963, a member of the Seventh Temple confessed to him having received orders from the Nation of Islam to kill him

  45. Malcolm X was a fearless fighter against segregation. To the many that celebrated his radical move from racial separation to racial integration while in Mecca he was El-Hajj Malik El- Shabazz. Malcolm X was a man that could change directions on a dime, or was he a man that didn't have any real identity or direction. Malcolm X led many people to join the Nation of Islam and used his gift of gab to build temples all over the country, then discovered that his leader was human and had human failings and just as quick started a revolution against him, trying to destroying the same organization that he helped build. Malcolm X was assassinated because of racial issues and the people thought that he was threat to them.

Malcolm X was a civil right leader but unlike Martin Luther King Jr. he believed in self-defense and thought of the civil rights movement as a war to be won “by any means necessary." When he was 21, Malcolm was sent to jail for burglary. There he encountered the teachings of The Nation of Islam. 6 years later he was released from prison and became a minister for the nation of Islam who believed that White people of European decent should be condemned. Later on, Malcolm went on a pilgrimage to mecca and was moved by the lack of racism there. When he came back to America he founded the Afro-American unity and believed that racism and not the white people, was the real enemy. His father was a Baptist preacher which is where he got his religious outspoken beliefs from. He spoke for the Nation of Islam. When he was released he felt that Elijah Muhammad's teachings did not stand up enough to support the civil rights movement. He made accusations about the presidents murder and Elijah thought Malcolm had become too powerful so he suspended him for the Nation of Islam.
