  1. The 13 amendment added to the constitution was the abolishing of slavery in America. The amendment stated “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude...shall exist within the United States, nor any place subject to their jurisdiction." The United States House of Representatives passed this amendment. The amendment was first brought to the congress in 1864; it passed in the U.S. Senate but did not the House. The states ratified the amendment in December 1865. To conclude I would like to say I enjoyed reading this blog. I always find encouragement to hear about one’s uprising. African Americans are one of the strongest ethnic groups and it feels amazing when you see them overcoming odds little by little.

  2. The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution officially outlaws slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. It was passed by the Senate on April 8, 1864, by the House on January 31, 1865, and adopted on December 6, 1865. On December 18, Secretary of State William H. Seward proclaimed it to have been adopted. It was the first of the three Reconstruction Amendments adopted after the American Civil War. President Lincoln and other Republicans were concerned that the Emancipation Proclamation, which in 1863 declared the freedom of slaves in ten Confederate states then in rebellion, would be seen as a temporary war measure, since it was solely based on Lincoln's war powers. The Proclamation did not free any slaves in the border states nor itself make slavery illegal.

  4. The abolishment of slavery in America states the 13th Amendment. The United States House of Representatives passed this amendment, reading "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude...shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." In 1864, the strong amendment was first brought to Congress but the House of Democrats did not agree to pass it. Lincoln wanted that the amendment to receive bipartisan support. Many Democrats opposed but the 13th amendment was sent to the states to be ratiffied in December 1865. This shaped our entire history to the farthest extent.

  5. In the year of 1865 on this year day, the House of Representatives passed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. The amendment was passed to abolish slavery in the United States. The amendment stated that, “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude… shall exist in the United States, nor any place subject to their jurisdiction.” The states ratified the amendment in December 1865. But it was the push of Abraham Lincoln that made this happen. A year before the U.S. tried to pass the amendment but, it was denied. It was denied mostly by Democrats, who were mostly the southern states, which were slave states at the time. But when Lincoln was brought back to the White House for his second term he was able to get help from more Republicans in the House. Having more Republicans helped the cause and helped the amendment get passed.

In 1865, the House of Representatives passed the 13th Amendment. The amendment read "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude... shall exist within the United Stated, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." This amendment abolished slavery in America. The amendment passed in the U.S. Senate but died in the House of Democrats. THanks to Abraham Lincoln's strive for the amendment to pass, the amendment was headed for passage when the new Congress convened in March 1865. The amendment passed seven votes above the necessary two-thirds majority which was good. Although several Democrats were against it, the 13th Amendment was ratified in December of 1865.

It read "Neither slavery or involuntary servitude...shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in September 1862. It freed all slaves in areas that were still in rebellion against the Union. It helped other states decide what to do with slavery also. An amendment abolishing slavery passed the U.S. senate in 1864 but then died in the House of Democrats. Lincoln was brought back to the White House in 1864. In 1865, the amendment passed. 18. The 13th amendment made a huge impact on the USA. If it wasn't for the passage of this amendment, there would still be slavery. this all started with Lincoln, a slave owner himself, being against slavery completely. This was said to be the main reason why the civil war was fought, Lincoln's taking of office. I think it is good that the amendment was passed because we are now a true FREE country.

The 13th Amendment to the constitution was the abolishing of slavery in the United States as passed by the House of Representatives in a 119 to 56 vote, just 7 votes of the minimum two thirds rule. The Amendment first went to the Government in 1864 but was shut down pretty quickly, then the coming year Lincoln was re elected with a vast majority of all houses being Republicans therefore bringing hope back to the dying bill. Finally in December 1865 all states signed the bill and it was amended to the Constitution therefore liberating America of the terrible tyranny that is the act of own slaves and slavery as a whole.

An attempt to have the amendment adopted had been made in the House as early as December, 1863, by James M. Ashley of Ohio, wrote historian Ralph Korngold. The statement said that all slaves would be declared free in those states still in rebellion against the United States on 1st January, 1863. It did not apply to those slave states such as Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri and parts of Virginia and Louisiana, that were already occupied by Northern troops. It was not until December 1865, when the Thirteenth Amendment of the Constitution had been passed by the House of Representatives, which stated that slavery was finally abolished everywhere in the United States.

However, the Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery and Lincoln decided that it had to be followed by a constitutional amendment. The 13th amendment abolished slavery in the United States and says that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, nor any place subject to their jurisdiction." He’s my favorite for the Republican Party because if you look at his family and how he’s maintained his success with them, it shows his commitment. That’s what the people want; a guy who’s committed to his family and will be committed to helping his country. He cares about jobs and education and wants to make that a main focus if he wins the elections. He reaches out to states in crisis and the people love that as well. 47. The 13th amendment was one of the most influential amendments to have ever been passed in our country. The passing of this amendment meant an ending to slavery and with that, an ending to an entire way of life. This amendment was proposed by Abraham Lincoln himself to the 38th congress. Lincoln was strongly against slavery and spoke his opinions freely. The Southern States that seceded from the union were forced to free their slaves and pass the amendment as part of their being allowed back into the union. The south was then forced to find a new means of supporting themselves and working their cash crops.

This was presented before Congress in 1865, but was shot down (due to a large bias of Democratic voters). Still, Abraham Lincoln was determined and would have the ammendment passed the very next year by the House of Representatives. This was a major turning point in American history because it not only freed African American slaves, but it also showed us that if we work hard to do what's right, we will succeed in the end. The amendment stated “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, nor any place subject to their jurisdiction." The United States House of Representatives passed this amendment. The amendment was first brought to the congress in 1864. It was passed by the U.S. Senate but the House of Democrats rejected it. 52. The 13th amendment was the amendment that abolished slavery and allowed all Africans that were still slaves to be free. The house that passed the amendment was the House of Representatives by a vote of 119 to 56, seven votes above the necessary 2-3rds. In 1864 an amendment abolishing slavery passed the U.S. Senate but failed in the House. But in 1865, the next year, the amendment appeared again and was then approved in the House. The amendment was approved on Jan. 31, 1865 and was finally ratified by all the states by December of that year.

  53. In 1864, The13th amendment failed in the House of Democrats assembly for state rights. The 13th amendment stated “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall exist within the United States or any place of jurisdiction.” This statement basically showcased the abolition of slavery. When Lincoln was brought back into the White House; shortly after the Emancipation Proclamation, Lincoln suggested that the amendment should retrieve the bipartisan support. Many Democrats resisted from this idea, but the amendment was still passed with 119 to 56 which later was sent to the states for legal ratification. On December 1865, the U.S House of Representatives passed the 13th amendment to the constitution.

  54. In 1865 the House of Representatives passed the 13th amendment to the constitution abolishing slavery in the United States. The amendment stated: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude... shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." The amendment abolishing slavery passed the U.S senate but died through the house of democrats paling in the name of the states' rights. They thought the amendment stood a chance after a new congress came in during 1865. The democrats gave all the support they could but still did not meet the necessary two-thirds majority. The thirteenth amendment was then sent to the states for ratification. When it was passed the constitution had permanently shaped American history forever.
