The vehicle is an electric car called EV1. GM was not the first to create the first electric car, this concept has been around since the industry's nascent days. The electric car isn't popular mode of transportation due it's high cost of producing and maintaining the vehicles. The popular way of transportation today is through buses and cars that are powered by gasoline (auto cars) . I wouldn't buy a electric car because I really don't know what's so special about electric cars to tell you the truth. I would have to know its features and pro's and con's. I would also have to have it compared to our model of cars today. This article explains the process of the EV1 starting up and it getting shut down. What I do wish is that the world would find a way to gradually replace auto cars with hybrid cars. They're way better for our environment .

The name of the electric car, dubbed the EV1 was announced by General Motors (GM) in Los Angeles auto show. They announced that it was going to be launched in the fall of 1969.
The EV1 was not a new concept, as electric vehicles but when this was created they can only sell them in the state of California and Arizona. This was one of the most important moments to GM because this was the beginning of the electric vehicle technology to be ongoing.
The electric car is not that popular because they are expensive and also not easy to always be charge.
In personal I would like to have one because it helps the environment.

  3. The EV1 was the name of the vehicle build in the 1900s. The GM was not the first ones to create the first electric car in fact, the electric vehicle had been around since the auto industry`s nascent days. The electric car was a popular mode of transportation because it was an easy car to use and the best part was that it was electric. I think that yes I would buy an electric car because it saves so much money. Now that gas is so expensive I could use that money for something else. Also, its easy to charge and it’s a good car.

  4. On January 4,1996 General Motors announced at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show that they will build an electric car, the EV1,which was launched in the fall of that year. When it was released in 1996, the EV1 was made available to consumers in just two states, Arizona and California, and for lease-only.During its years in production, from 1996 to 1999, around 2,500 EV1s were produced in total. In late 2003, the company announced it was pulling the plug on the EV1 program and wouldn't renew any leases. This action made a lot of environmental activists mad and protest against the end of the EV1.

  5. (E:Block)GM Motors called their electric vehicle the EV1. Even though this was a great product, it wasn’t anything new. GM did not create the first electric car. Electric cars had been around since the auto industry’s blossoming days. In the early 20th century, the Columbia Roundabout could travel 40 miles on a single charge, with speeds going as high as 15 mph. It was the panic of the oil crisis of the 1970s that led to the movement of electric vehicles. I do not think electric cars are a very popular mode of transportation. They’re expensive and do not always come in the styles the consumer wants. However I do think they would better the environment. I think I would buy an electric car. If it meant helping the environment I would. I don’t think it would ever be possible, but I would. Like I said they’re expensive!

  6. The vehicle that nixon created was called the EV1. GM was not the first to create the first electric car, this concept has been around since the industry's nascent days. I do not think it was very popular only because some people cannot afford it at the timee. Honestly would i buy a electric car.. i dont know, only because i'm not that into cars now if i come across a car i like, fits me and i find out it is electric than yea i would buy it. It just depends on the moment.

Electric cars had been around since the auto industry's nascent days. I do not think electric cars are a popular mode of transportation. If I could, I think I would buy an electric car to save more money and because it helps the environment.

I would and would not buy an electric car but it saves gas and helps out the environment and I wouldn't because there are usually small.

  10. The EV1, General Motors’ electric car, was announced in a car show in 1996. The EV1 was not the first electric car, there were many before it. People liked the cars because they were environmentally friendly and didn’t run on gas, but they were never one of the most popular kind of car. The EV1 project was ended in 2003, GM said that they cost too much to make and it was also costly to maintain the vehicle. The cars were made up to meet the requirements for the Zero-Emission mandate that was passed in California, so when they were able to bend the rules a little, they cancelled the EV1. I personally would like an electric powered car, but I’m not sure if they go as fast as the gas powered variety. Maybe they’ll be more popular in the future.

  11. In 1996, the General Motors announced that it will build a electric vehicle and for it to be launched later on in the fall. The EV1 was was one of the first electric cars to be created. These types of cars have been around for a much greater time period than the EV1. I highly believe it was not a favored mode of transportation, but some really liked the idea that it doesn't run on gasoline. Unfortunately, the EV1 project failed and ended in 2003; it had cost a fortune to create and was very high maintenance. Personally I would love to have an electric car, its something you do not usually see and it is perfect for me. Hopefully the future of auto industry can make very advanced hybrid/electric smartcars; it would indeed help our environment to an extreme rate.

Electric cars aren't the most popular forms of transportation because they are pretty expensive. I personally wouldn't get an electric car if it was up to me because I think that it's expensive and not that reliable. The only reason I would buy on of these electric cars would be to save money on gas.

The electric car is a popular mode of transportation because it saves money but usually people do not prefer it because of the down faults in it. Me ever buying an electric car would have to depend on the type of car and how it works. Of course it would save money but it would have to drive like a normal car and not do anything strange and have any bad defects.

  14. The EV1 wasn't an entirely new concept, as electric vehicles had been around since the auto industry's nascent days. In the early 20th century, the Columbia Runabout, which could travel 40 miles on a single electric charge at speeds of 15 mph, was a best-seller. As Time.com noted: "Before her husband Henry's mass production of gas-powered cars crushed the electric industry, Clara Ford drove a 1914 Detroit Electric, which could last 80 miles without a charge." The oil crisis of the 1970s, coupled with a burgeoning environmental movement, led to renewed interest in electric vehicles, although no automaker was able to develop one that garnered mass appeal.

It was a popular mode of transportation because of the oil crisis and that it was so cheap to drive, but it had a lot of down faults. I personally would have to think about it, it would depend on how it worked and how easy it was to maintain, but if all was good, i would go out and buy one.

When General Motors unveiled the EV1 electric car in 1996, electric cars were already well established and known. Electric cars were being worked on as early as the beginning of the 20th century. Sure, it could only go at 15 miles an hour for 40 miles, but the technology was there. Once the oil crisis of the 70's came about, the question soon became "Are electric cars the future?" And electric cars became popular for a while there, but once the crisis ended things kind of went back to the way they were. Now, since gas prices have been going up, there has been more investment in electric cars, now electric cars are relatively common years after GM pulled the plug on the EV1. M, personally, I probably wouldn't buy one, because by the time fossil fuels become obsolete, alternative fuel would probably be common enough.

I would probably get an electric car, if it was at the right price. I wouldn’t want to pay too much for one.

The vehicle that GM rolled off its assembly lines was the EV1. But electric cars weren't a new concept. The Columbia Runabout was the first electric car. Before Ford crushed the electric industry with his mass production of gasoline cars, his wife drove an electric car that could last 80 miles without a charge, which was a lot back then. I don't believe hybrids and electric cars are a popular mode of transportation but if oil prices get high, then it'll probably become more popular. As if I would ever buy an electric car? I don't really know, but I would analyze it like this: If oil prices are high, I would get an electric car. But while oil prices are "tolerable", I won't get one.

If it were up to me I would definitely consider a hybrid car which runs on half electricity and half gasoline. They are a little pricier than a regular car that runs on strictly gasoline but worth it in the end because you are saving thousands in paying for gas. -Kafee Gucciardo

The vehicle GM made was called the EV1. GM wasn't the first to make the first electric car because electric vehicles had been around since the auto's nascent days. To me, the electric car is popular mode of transportation because it can still take you anywhere, you can save money by not needing gasoline, and it helps the environment's air more healthier to breathe. I would like to buy an electric car because I can save money from gasoline to buy other things, especially in this bad economy, I can help the environment by making the air healthier to breathe and help the ozone layer, and I can go more miles in an electric car than regular car on a single charge.

In my opinion, if I had to choose a car it would not be an electric car because they need more maintenance and I wouldn’t be too familiar in knowing how to even maintain it. I’am not saying auto cars are the best cars because they do hurt our environment, but I think they need to come up with a more “environmental friendly” car for all of us.

However, GM didn’t create the first electric car, because electric vehicles had been around in the previous years. In my opinion electric cars are a popular mode of transportation because they are economic and save money instead of using gas. They are a more convenient to the environment, than using gasoline, but I’m not sure if I would buy an electric car. I would have to see how well it works, if it’s pretty, and if it has the same conveniences as a regular car. If it will help the environment, I will consider it.

  27. On January 4 1996 General Motors had a debut (located in Los Angelos) which displayed their new and improved electrical car which was nicknamed the EV1. It’s a proven fact that General Motors did not create the first eletric vehicle . It is’nt a brand new idea, it actually had been around since the auto industry's nascent days. As far as electrical vehicles being popular, I don’t believe its reached it peak yet. The reason being that maybe plenty of people are skeptical concerning the high price of purchasing a hybrid and /or the difficulties a person may go through to find one. I probably wouldn’t purchase one because it isn’t for me, but it is very efficient, faster, easier to maintain, does no harm to our enviorment, and save you tons of cash.

  29. there was an attempt to successfully market the EV1. The first electrical car. It was ver expensive to manufacture and although 2500 cars were actually made and sold in Arizona and California they pulled the plug on it as it was not practical and expensive. It ran 40 miles without needing a charge. It was produced by General Motors. They went through a financial crisis in 2008 and declared bankruptcy in order to obtain government help.

Being that the prices for an electric car are steeper than those of regular cars, the EV1 is not very popular. Other reasons are  because of the hassle to maintain them and the limited styles. Personally, I think the EV1 is a good idea but I would never buy one because I wouldn't be able to travel very far in it and would end up having to purchase another car or rent one for traveling.

This article is about how General Motors made a huge financial mistake by not going forward and continue working with one of the first eletric car models the EV1. When in it first came out in 1996, the EV1 was made available to consumers in just two states, Arizona and California .The bad thing was that it was only for lease , so general motors stuck to big cars and non fuel officiant vehicles , which got them to file for bankrupcy a couple years later . I wish that society would finally understand that we are harming the planet in so many ways , and a way to fix it is by buying hybrid / electtic cars , so we c an make our enviroment a better place .
